Continuing Education Units

In order for a professional to maintain a particular license in a specific industry, they must earn “education points” in that area of study, known as Continuing Education Units (CEUs). Continuing Education Units (CEUs) are nationally-recognized units of measuring participation for approved non-credit continuing education programs.

BRN – Board of Registered Nurses – The Board of Registered Nursing (BRN) is a state governmental agency established by law to protect the public by regulating the practice of registered nurses. The BRN is responsible for implementation and enforcement of the Nursing Practice Act: the laws related to nursing education, licensure, practice, and discipline. The Nursing Practice Act created a nine-member Board which serves as the BRN decision-making body.

What is the BRN CE program?

Since July 1, 1978, California registered nurses have been required to document continued competency by completing a minimum of 30 contact hours every two years in subjects relevant to the practice of nursing. Courses must be taken from providers approved by the BRN or other entities recognized by the Board.
